My Favorite Room
I think the living room has now become my favorite room. For one it is bathed in sunlight from the south and east windows which is my favorite side of any house. When we purchased the house it was beige like the dining room and was the next room on my agenda to paint.
I have had orange living rooms for a long time but somehow the color I have used in the past (more of a pastel yellow-orange) did not seem right for our house. Since the woodwork is fairly mission style and the room had lots of openings and windows we opted for a deeper tone. Spicy curry is the color that we decided upon after many different samples were brought home. When I painted the walls I wasn’t sure (especially since I only did as high as I could reach saving the top part for my husband to do when he got home. (Ladders and I do not get along) 🙂 Once he finished the top I liked it better but still wasn’t sure. It was much darker than I have ever done. But we decided to live with it for a while.
The quilt that my mother made pulls all the fun vibrant colors together in this room and after a time we purchased the burgundy lamp shades for the chandelier which made me love that old fixture. After a time I thought that a shade lighter orange might be nice on the ceiling much like what we did in the dining room. I am not as crazy about that choice in the living room but we have grown accustomed to it. What I really thought would be cool is a gold finish on the ceiling maybe someday but for now we are enjoying the warmth of the room. The vibrant choices in the room definitely makes it my favorite room and I am learning to choose deeper colors because for me personally that is what psychologically makes me happier.
