Peace Amidst World Turmoil
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear (timidity, fearfulness), but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” I Timothy 1:7 NKJV
Fear has run rampant because of the attacks in Paris and the world over. ISIS has the world in fear. Who is the author of fear? Satan. Are we to submit to fear? No! When fear begins to grip my heart I need to take a hard look at myself. Because I am commanded not to worry, but to submit to God, to resist the devil and all of his attacks. (James 4:7) Fear being the primary attack that I struggle with. The world is in turmoil but in the midst of that turmoil I can have peace. I can have joy. I can have love. I can have a sound mind. I need to turn to Jesus and ask him to empower me to walk as He walked.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John 14:27 NKJV Peace, Jesus is the prince of peace. As I sit in His presence and silence my heart I am filled with His overwhelming peace. That is the thing the devil does not want us to do. He wants us to run about doing. Being distracted by the cares of this world. He wants us to be like Martha. Satan knows if like Mary we sit at Jesus’ feet we will become powerful and he will be powerless against us. Because when we sit silent and listen to our Lord the cares of the world melt away and we begin to see things differently. We begin to see as Jesus saw.
“My kingdom is not of this world, there is a better way, a way of love, walk in it. I will show you the way as you dwell in My presence. You are my beloved child walk in my ways and the fear of this age will not touch you. I will be with you. I will comfort you. You need not fear man who can only harm the body. I hold you in my hand. Look to the eternal, not the temporary.”
“Don’t be afraid, just trust me.” Luke 8:50
“Why are you so afraid? Do you still not have faith in Me?” Mark 4:40
