Autumn Garden Cleanup
Before winter comes I like to trim back some of the annual and perennials in my front flower garden to make it look a bit more tidy. I leave some leaves as mulch for the plants and some seed heads for the birds to munch on. Last week I had some birds perch on my porch posts and scold me while I was inside having devotions. I guess they wanted food. So we put a bit out on the ground for them.
I did clean out most of the food garden in the back but we still have kale that we can harvest. Usually I would have pulled out the tomato plants by now but got lazy. (Just being honest here) 🙂 Our plan next spring is to add another board on top of the beds and more soil so they are higher up so I have not sown any fall seed either. Last fall I planted a variety of greens and had a lot of salad really early in the spring. I will miss that next year but I really want the beds higher. One thing I have learned over the years is not to stress about the little things and some things can wait. It is nice to have a clean garden to start with in the spring but not necessary. We are trying to make time for more fun and not constantly letting the house and gardens be our sole focus so some things are starting to slip in favor of life balance.
