Please Don’t Spray

I live on top of a hill in a small town.  It was a gorgeous day with a nice breeze so all of my windows were flung open.

While working at my computer I started to feel numbness in my face and began wondering what I was exposed to or might have eaten to cause the sensation.  It wasn’t long until I realized there was a chemical smell permeating my home.  I quickly ran to each window to see what was going on outside.  And there I spotted it over a half a block away below my home a yard was being sprayed by a riding sprayer.  I quickly closed my windows grumbling as I did so.   This was 4:30 pm when my husband came home at 5:30 pm he could still smell the chemicals in our house and said it was even worse outside.  In a few hours the smell dissipated and I was able to open the windows to air out the house. Help for Eye Strain Issues

Help for Eye Strain Issues

For several years I have struggled with eye issues either due to excessive computer use, florescent lights and allergies.  At one point my eye doctor gave me steroid drops which really helped but are not a long term solution.

A friend had told me several years prior about Dr. Christopher’s Herbal Eyebright which is a cayenne based solution.  They told me it did sting a bit and honestly the thought of putting cayenne in my eye was not very appealing.  J  However, when I am desperate for relief and really don’t want to go the medical route if possible I am willing to try about anything.  The steroid drops stung too so I figured why not try it? Update on My Palate Cleanse

Update on My Palate Cleanse

The past few days have been difficult.  I did have to add in protein to my tomato veggie soup after the first day.  For lunch I added 1/2 cup of plain yogurt and for supper lean grass fed hamburger.  Just being real with you all and letting you know my struggles.  Today I had eggs for breakfast instead of the green juice.  Even though the sugars in the juice are fruit I really feel like it was too much sugar for my system and that adding protein is more important.  Every one is different and I know I would have a lot of difficulty with being a vegetarian.  🙂  I like meat.  I just like to make sure that whomever I am getting the meat from is raising their animals in a humane manner before their life is ended. Vicks VapoRub to Cure Toenail Fungus

Vicks VapoRub to Cure Toenail Fungus

For a long time my second toe on each foot has had a thicker nail and the skin (or whatever it was) underneath was getting thicker.  Because my toe is the longest it got banged around on my shoes more when walking so I thought that was the cause.  Then I read the following articles on how putting Vicks VapoRub on your toes could kill fungus and I thought- why not??   I wasn’t certain if it was fungus or not, but I do have issues with candida yeast in my system so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try it.  I cut those two toenails very short so that the Vicks could get to the tissue under the nails as much as possible.  The first night after washing my feet I put on the Vicks and then a sock.  But it was summer and I get super warm so that was too uncomfortable.  So after that I just put a bandaid over the Vicks on my toe.  I did this faithfully for 8 weeks.  While my toe nail is now totally grown out from the nail bed after about 4 months the nails seems much more normal.  I would say this is a success.  Of course I will have to continue to watch and see if there are negative changes, but for now I am really happy I tried it.  Read More

Priorities vs. Excuses

Priorities vs. Excuses

time

I watched a video on this topic this past week on my Meltdown Challenge that really made me think.  How many times do I make excuses for any number of things when the answer isn’t really I don’t have time, I can’t afford it, I don’t have the will power.  You get it.  Instead I need to say it is just not a high priority for me at this time.    Read More

Pets, The Best Medicine

Pets, The Best Medicine

Yesterday I saw a video of a dog calming a woman that has aspergers who was having what looked like an anxiety attack.  It reminded me of how good pets are for our mental well-being.  For my entire life animals have been a calming force in my life.  From the time I was 5 until I was 13 we lived on a dairy farm.  I spent as much time as possible in the barn or the pasture with the cows, cats, dogs and horses.  They were my best friends.  You can tell them anything and they don’t judge or repeat it to anyone.  🙂

Neti-Potting For Sinus Health

Neti Pot for sinus health

For several years now I have been using my neti pot daily in the winter for sinus health.  I used to get awful sinus headaches and toothaches stemming from the sinuses.  Several people suggested to me trying the neti pot but I thought, “ no way am I pouring water on purpose into my nose”.  Memories of water up the nose while swimming pretty much quelled any desire to want to try it.  But eventually I got tired of being miserable and decided it couldn’t hurt to try it.  I cannot express to you the relief I have found from this simple routine.  I use salt designed for the purpose and warm distilled water only (using tap water could cause worse infection if the water was contaminated).  Read More
