One of the upsides of feeding the birds right out in front of the office window is not only the different birds we get to see but all the other critters that are hungry and hang out.
They provide great entertainment for us. The squirrels are braver and come out in the middle of the day.

Yesterday the snow was coming down and the wind was howling when I looked out my window and saw a frenzy of bird activity. Purple finches, nuthatches, chickadees and sparrows sharing the food on the hanging feeder and on the ground.

Before winter comes I like to trim back some of the annual and perennials in my front flower garden to make it look a bit more tidy. I leave some leaves as mulch for the plants and some seed heads for the birds to munch on. Last week I had some birds perch on my porch posts and scold me while I was inside having devotions. I guess they wanted food. So we put a bit out on the ground for them.

Goodbye Summer Birds and Butterflies
As autumn is now here in full force I bid adieu to the summer birds and butterflies. My favorite thing that I have planted in the past couple of years has been my front flower bed. I can sit at my office desk and watch the birds and butterflies sipping nectar or mowing down on seed heads.
